  • THANKSGIVING DINNER

Last night I had the Thanksgiving dinner at my place. I order the turkey from Kansas City Steak House. It is Hickory smoked and honey glazed. My children just love it. All the other turkeys we eat elsewhere, have no appeal to our taste buds. The meat is so bland and without any flavor. Dave loves the turkey I get. So as soon as Sayeed and Shelley returned from her mother's home after the Thanksgiving last Thursday, I decided to have them and Saadi's family over last night.

It was the best evening we thought. Mohamed and I were so happy to see Dave so relaxed and happy, laughing and joking and talking to every one. It had been months since we had seen him in such a wonderful and happy mood.

The little kids had a blast running through the house, screaming and laughing, watching TV. Zain slept most of the time. Davis recited in Arabic,  the first chapter of the Quran which is akin to The Lord's Prayer, Thanking God and asking for Blessings.

I had some Indian dishes too, and the table was full of food. Here are some pictures of the food and the table pre and post. This is where we gathered around. I took this picture before the table was set. Our Books of Scripture still on it. Mohamed and I sit here every morning to read the Holy Quran.

Cranberries soaking in water before the sauce was made. I think these berries are so beautiful when they are in water and the taste is wonderful. I cooked them with walnuts and oranges along with sugar.

The breakfast table had some appetizers, which no one touched. The Buffalo wild Wing dip, the cheeses or the vegetables all just sat around.

They were all waiting for the turkey. I forgot to take a picture of the turkey, heh heh! But got the dark and white meat separated and finally the table was set.

It was not an elaborate meal by any stretch of imagination, but every one thoroughly enjoyed every thing, I believe.  Later on we had the pecan pie for dessert.

Hope you all had a good weekend.

  • You always set a pretty table. That turkey looks good - good smoked meat is hard to beat! I can't imagine why no one sampled the appetizers but I'd be conserving my calorie quota for the meal proper too! Such good news about Dave!

    • I think that's what they all did. Did not want to fill their tummies with appetizers before the turkey.

  • I'm so happy to hear that Dave is feeling himself (or nearly so) again! That looks like a lovely Thanksgiving dinner!

    • Yes Janet, I am so grateful for Dave. I am now praying that all the tests (scans) that will be done soon, will all be negative, and he will go into complete remission. Thank you for your kind thoughts.

  • So glad you had a great day, and Dave was happy, feeling better, and enjoying himself. It does our hearts good when our children and grandchildren are healthy and happy. It's always good to read Holy Books, and give thanks thanks to God for all He gives us.

  • Humans love relaxing with family and eating lots of food so much that the need for it must be built into our DNA!
This another memory for all of you to store away in your hearts.

  • OH! I'm so happy that your family had such a lovely time of celebration and thankfulness! And that Dave could enjoy the day! I just keep praying for him!
Your table setting is so beautiful! and the food looks delicious! :-)
That turkey sounds amazing! If I ate THAT I'm sure I couldn't ever eat a regular old turkey-turkey again! :-D
I'm so glad you made such precious memories!

    HUGS!!! :-) y

    • Aww you are so kind and so sweet Carolyn. Thank you for such a lovely comment. Memories, I hope my grandchildren will remember all this when we become memories ourselves.

  • Not sure what you mean about it not being an elaborate meal. Looks really good to me! Glad Dave was in such good spirits.

  • It's nice to spend time with family and enjoy good food. It's a gift from God. :-)

  • I might have just eaten the cranberries...I too am glad you had a great Thanksgiving with your family, and I'm so proud that you let the kids have a good time, so many people get upset with running, screaming and laughing children! YAY FOR DAVE!!!!!

    • Thank you. Yes, I am humbled by God's grace in the way Dave feels these days. I love my grandkids running around in the home. But when they start screaming too much, then I have to put a stop. my son will usually talk to them and make them go quiet for a few minutes. heh.

  • that looks way more healthy then what we had. LOL
I try to always bring fresh veggies and fruit just to have something I don't mind over eating.
We have Polish wood dishes on the wall but I've never had any to eat off of. My sister has been to the old country and my mom, too.

    • I think some of the dishes were healthy. Some of the fried food, hmmm, not so much. I hope you get to go to your old country too Jill.

  • Hi Dr. Zakiah!! You crack me up with all of those lavish meals. I feel like a homeless person on the street with a little tin cup begging for money. lol

Awesome!! Also, admire you and your love of family a lot.

    • I don't think the meal was lavish at all Frank. I even forgot two dishes inside the fridge, and saw them after we had finished our dinner. Family means every thing to me Frank, as it does to all my readers here and others whom I know.

  • Everything looks so yummy I love the veggie plates that for some reason is what I go for and fill up on it before I ever get to the main dish....
I have been doing some recipes off of a site that I have to translate from Hebrew to English I baked some lemon cookies of that site and I love lemon cookies but I have never tasted a recipe that yummy it called for a little fresh ginger wow so good I have not told Jeff I am cooking with ginger he thinks he doesn't like it lol
You really sit a beautiful table...
I am so glad Dave is feeling better that is such a blessing...

    • I don't know much about Jewish cooking. I love the knishes that I have eaten in Chicago. Thank you for stopping by Mae.

  • BTW: Come join in the Christmas Fun! I have a fun survey on my post today! :-D

  • It is good to see some sense of normalcy returning to the M & Z household. Blessings indeed that your son-in-law is doing better. Take care Zakiah.

  • It's good to have the family together and share a special meal.

  • Looks like a great day :)
